First, demulsification agents Flocculate the water droplets into bubbles by forming chemical bonds between water droplets. Demulsifier molecules, absorbed on the droplet's sheath, amplify chemical attractions between water molecules, forcing them together.
In the second stage, water molecules Coalescence, or merge into larger water droplets. Demulsifiers penetrate the emulsified film to form a channel through which water drains from one droplet to the other.
Both of these mechanisms allow small, stable water bubbles to combine into larger bubbles that sink to the bottom of the gear box to be drained off.
